Well sorry Ian but I beg to differ. I agree a large part of Brentford South of the High Street is a dump and the sooner we get it developed the better. Personally I'd be happy with less than perfection- ie the best that can be organised - because the alternative is another 2 decades of neglect. But, many of the older streets are charming, with some excellent pubs. Ferry Quays where I live is a fantastic place to live on the banks of the river and canal, and looking across to Kew Gardens. Ditto the Brentford Dock estate and in a slightly different way The Island. Along past our treasured Arts Centre (or the Arts Centre that's rubbish except when the council are wrongly suspected of threatening it, when it becomes treasured) there are a lot of new flats which may not be to everyone's taste but which people are prepared to pay millions for. I'm dubious about the quoted cost of the work outside the court but the principle is fine with me: and I'm a believer in investing in the public space because I think it lifts people's spirits (and behaviour). As to the fountains - have the fountains in Hammersmith survived - haven't been there for a while? Keith, I reiterate that I think you're wrong - time will tell. I'm very far from bitter - I believe in this place and want people who live here to share that belief and show a bit of positivity, that's all. |
