Sadly it is for sale, more concrete. http://www.propertyfinder.com/cgi-bin/rsearch?a=o&id=504225644 It really should have a preservation order put on it as it has so much history attached,British,Saxon,Roman etc. Henry Ist ordered the people of Brentford to supply him with Lampreys which bred in the (then) clean silt. Like lots of river islands (Aits) it was probably caused by the Rivers Brent and Thames meeting, very rich soil from the Brent being pushed aside by the Thames and settling downstream. Possibly the same at Isleworth Ait were the Crane meets the Thames. The soil on the Ait must be amazing for growing almost anything, hence the greenhouse I suppose. |
