Thanks for flagging this. We’ve looked into the recent performance of Route 65 and spoken with the operator.

The route has generally been meeting its minimum performance standard, but during it was impacted by industrial action on 29 August and 1 September, which caused higher levels of staff lost mileage. Outside of that, the operator confirms the route is fully staffed daily, so there’s no ongoing driver shortage linked to parking issues at Fulwell depot.

The recent curtailments seen are due to severe traffic disruption rather than staffing. Key factors include:
• Emergency closure of Manor Road – pushing displaced traffic through Richmond
• Kew Bridge signal phasing – delays prioritising A4 traffic
• TTS Teddington works – affecting driver changeovers
• Kingston congestion – heavier than usual with Christmas shopping.
These issues have caused delays of 15–30 minutes, and to maintain service levels and protect driver hours, some buses have had to terminate short at Bond Street. The operator is trying to minimise this wherever possible.

We’ll keep monitoring and raise any persistent issues with First Bus.
