Brentford Dock was built as social housing in the 1970s, publicly/locally owned. An asset for the whole community, although someone forgot to formally route the Thames Path that way, as a public right of way. But Thatcher stole it as part of her vote buying seizure of lots of council housing. Much of it has now turned into private rentals and it seems to be a small committee that are determined to make it into one of those loathsome gated communities. Perhaps we should put customs posts at the exits and charge anyone coming out of the brown gulag a tenner to use Brentford's plentiful facilities, libraby, shops, transport, restaurants, pubs etc. The Dock has ugly architecture and little going for it except rather nice, peaceful Thames views. Whenever we've walked there the people we've met have been charming and we have never seen any evidence of any littering or ASB. I think that's a false excuse.
