To put this in context. The LTNs are part of a wider policy overseen by Sadiq Khan and his unelected chums, such as Julian Bell, on the TfL board. Khan has a policy called Vision Zero, which aims to eradicate deaths and serious injuries on London roads by 2041. It seems his only ambition in achieving this is to eradicate private car ownership in the capital. They have taken the example of Oslo as the blueprint. Make driving as expensive and inconvenient as possible to force people out of their cars, regardless of the social-economic impact. There’s nothing in the policy that addresses deaths caused by vans, lorries, buses and, gasp, cyclists. One presumes that all drivers of such vehicles will be re-educated accordingly. Meanwhile Khan continues to be ferried about London in his armoured, diesel powered Range Rover. What’s sad is that numpties like Guy Lambert and the rest of his LCC influenced cohort can’t be honest about what they are up to. But then that’s why they chose politics. The problem with socialist utopias is they never, ever work.
