'In their latest leaflet, the Conservative candidates in the Brentford West ward have committed to "fully consult with residents and review all restrictive traffic measures".' Well, looks good doesn't it? But what it lacks is any commitment that the results of the consultation would be binding. Basically, it's Yeh, we'll go through the motions, which is what we have now. Mandatory consultation is often required for many proposals that affect people's daily lives, whether or not anyone has to pay any attention to the results is quite another matter. This is just playing with words. |
