I've lost count over the last decade and more of these being highlighted, raised and simply dismissed. Overdensification without protection of space and facilitating proper long term infrastructure first is a near crime. At the very least utter stupidity. The whole history of London and a lot of why it's not a perfect city is due to the afterthought of infrastructure. The Victorians worked a near miracle with sewers and water treatment. It was near impossible then. What is being done now only rectifies the shortcomings of the past 50 years but fails to address the huge surge in population and the continual encouragement of such in a not very big region. Sewage treatment works at Perry Oaks ( where Terminal 5 is now) was never adequately replaced. Pat of the problem is privatisation of Water, but just as bad was the very long term shelving of future proofing of basic infrastructure over the past half century. Nothing is ever addressed properly or fully and far too often when the problems foreseen are raised, far too many with vested interests or plain ignorance or arrogance are all to keen to dismiss them. Still happening today. |
