It's not a good time to plant saplings. Too dry in spring and too windy with wind burn this summer. Saplings out to be planted at the right time for the right species. Contractors simply don't bother and many species of a traditional indigenous type are not selected because they simply won't maintain them through their early years. Wrong types of soils wrong conditions. For every one mature tree , six have to be planted as only 1 in 6 reaches maturity. It's all in the costings but never carried out, like so many things. |
