I have seen Muntjac in Kew Gardens, intermittently, for ten years, most recently in the bushes by the Aerial Walkway/compost area. They live in the conservation area where they are undisturbed. My information is they have travelled along the towpath from Bushy/Richmond park, which is probably the way the badgers have also found their way to Kew.
it is known this route is also a flight path for bats to the wetland nature reserve.
As for crossing the river, the Thames' current would be too strong for the deer to cross, even at slack tide, so that is unlikely. Also they are good jumpers and could easily clear the fence and HaHa to get in to the Gardens.
Continue to keep your eyes peeled and I look forward to more reports of sightings.
