I disagree Dan, whilst the forum part of websites such as this are appropriate for speculation, rumour or gossip, the news articles etc. should be fully researched prior to publication to ensure they are as accurate as they can be - especially when dealing with sensitive local issues. There is nothing more frustrating, be it when you're a small business or a major company, when a website publishes a news article that is littered with errors, which people are then inclined to accept as facts, and it's very different to rectify that once the seed has been planted. I see it happen so often on the NN sites when planning issues are reported, both when I'm involved in those issues and when I'm not. And I think I can post on this with a degree of authority because for 8 years when I was either studying for my planning degree or working I also 'worked' as a sports journalist, including for a national magazine, for effectively nothing (my pay effectively covered my travel costs). But there's no way I would ever let anything go to print/publication without being 100% sure of the facts. |
