This is becoming a big problem with the Mayor of London and TfL projects. It's all showboating and high profiles. But the proof is in the small Print. It's what they don't want his to know and don't want to come clean with. New trains for the Piccadilly Line. Super. But less seats and hard uncomfortable seats are to be specifically specified. Purely to suit the claims of extra capacity. Will you find this mentioned anywhere. Not unless you dig really deep. Same with the Cycle ways. Far far better would be better surfaces and maintained quiet streets with easy alternative routes away from heavy traffic. Most who cycle locally have always done this and would be far more if it were not for potholes, poor lighting and road markings and a few other small deficiencies. With those deficiencies corrected it would be a huge boon to safer and easier and less challenging cycling and far less chance of being affected from pollution and road spray, dust and grime. But it's low key, barely anyone would notice and does not suit the egos and salaries of those who ride the career surf of political and public service. Sensible and pragmatic are not vote winners or career ladders. Shame really. It ought to be. |
