Fair enough. The Bill was debated on 20th July. You posted your comment the next day. Ruth C's explanation appeared on the 24th. It can be considered, in effect to be a reasonably timely response to your request (you can be sure lots of other people were asking the same question). The issue now is whether that explanation is satisfactory. Personally I am with those who voted against the Bill but it is a pity that much of the criticism of the Labour abstention has shown no understanding of the context (i.e. the nature of a HoC "reasoned amendment", the fact that was a second reading, and the role of the subsequent committee stage). A complex process has thus been judged in simplistic terms. |
