This was mentioned way back when. The wisdom of building residential housing along one of europe's busiest roads is generally met with incredulity in most developed countries...except here in a country that has more beaurocracy and regulations than most. And yet as Adam has pointed out on previous entries of a similar topic. Certain factors are simply not considered relevant, pertinant or statute at planning stages. No consideration is made to wind vortices which can play havoc with everything from a ladies attire to ones lungs. Both Canary Wharf and locally the BSI Building at Gunnersbury are well known examples of what can happen. Both suffer multi direction wind vortices even on days where wind is almost still. It seems as well no serious consideration is made to health impact from major elevated roads even though the pollution levels are well recorded and the date made public. It is so overlooked that not even a substantial amount of trees have been factored into the developments. This is simply because the will be a H&S risk because of wind vortices which could make the trees a safety risk. All this is known and largely brushed under the carpet by architects and developers and because there are no requirements for a risk or vortice survey. No one is actually doing anything wrong by doing so. This is an area that really needs to be addressed and brought into the planning stage. But so far, heads are deeply in the sand. |
