| Steve, the West Middx. hasn't only benefitted from building works, the whole of the NHS has improved beyond recognition. Gone - well we thought they'd gone but with this lot maybe not - are the days of patients being stuck in corridors on trolleys for hours on end, you no longer have to wait for months after a GP referral to see a Consultant. And in spite of targets being much maligned they can have their uses as long as they are used with a degree of common sense and flexibility, something which wasn't so apparent sadly. It's all very well Andrew Lansley banging on about 'outcomes' but how do you measure them against the time patients have to wait for services, quality of care, cleanliness, re-referrals? There were many ideas for the revamping of the West Mid. but I think it is fair to say that Ann Keen's help in attaining the rebuild was something she can take credit for, like Pat I think the arguments over PFI are another matter. |
