| A huge loss as one of the best fish and chips shops in the entire district and beyond. And one of the most reasonably priced. With the nicest of owners and going back 25 years or so the previous owner, Nick also genuinely nice But another example of the lack of concern about the impact of other actions and how they damage not just a business, but the fabric of a wider community. Whilst we see upmarket venues open - and then close, funded quietly by developers marketing budgets, nothing is ever factored in with planning applications to mitigate the losses or impact on local businesses of the smallest kind, like the fish and chips shop. Regular customers will know of the huge speculative rent hikes by landlords linked to planning opportunities. that have been foisted on the business owner and others like them. But the loss of several hundred residents on top of the reduction in lifeblood footfall from Brentford Football club was the icing on the cake not destroy the viability of the business. Another dent was the loss of quick stop parking and enforcement that wiped out custom from further afield. It's shame that yet again, no support or effort has been made with CIL funding or rate reductions for tiny businesses just like this one, which are knocked for six by a development that involves extracting a sizeable chunk of customers. It is not of any fault of their own. Sadly, this is not the first inflicted casualty, Brentford has several now forgotten and quite a few more recently. Not helped either by the general neglect over the past 15 years of the state of Albany Road. The flat conversions are third rate externally and not properly appropriate for the design or conservation ambience of the area. Evident in several parts of the Griffin Park CA with no care taken in maintaining and replacing items the are part of the CA . Not one lifted a finger to help the owners of the business, to bridge the period of void. But if the paragraph in the report on this site is a quote from the planning dept suggesting there is an alternative Kebab Shop nearby that underlines the glib and complete lack of comprehension of what makes a community cohesive. Something for everyone. I wish the owners well. Another real dent for Brentford |
