To your questions: no, no, yes. No they do not come here for the meagre benefits here compared to most EU members. I know a lot of people with little money and even if they think they would prefer to live in a hotel without any ability to learn, work, or be paid normal benefits. The fact about asylum seekers is that a nyone in the UK will be entitled to benefit from essential services such as the NHS, fire services, or the police regardless of their permissions or status. Asylum seekers may also receive a limited amount of financial support to help with food and necessities. This is usually £49.18 per person per week, which is awarded in the form of an ASPEN card or Asylum Support Enablement Card, which is a prepaid debit card. Should you have been housed in an accommodation that provides food, this amount will be reduced to £8.86 per person. It is a horrible life for an asylum seeker. That is a fact that is not a matter of opinion. I hope and benieve that the current government will get to grips with quickly reducing and eliminating people living in this limbo and (as you say) costing us a lot of money. All the evidence is the vast majority will be granted asylum and the vast majority will work as soon as they are permitted to and contribute to our country far more than they cost in support. |
