| Here are the wise words delivered by our great leader - there seems to be a lot of misunderstanding somewhere down the line:- https://www.hounslow.gov.uk/news/article/576/statement_on_dukes_meadows_master_plan_chiswick_boat_house Perfectly plain that the council cannot afford to help maintain roadways, hedges and banks in Duke's Meadows and allow the people that love and use it and have already contributed £1000 of pounds to oversee the management of it. No, the Council insists in order to part with any cash at all, the area has to be turned over to themselves, commercialised and turned into a money making machine. Unfortunately Thames Tradesman seem to have fallen foul of these grandious plans, placed between a rock and a hard place with their clubhouse for the chop, their original rental agreement ripped up and the club itself and all other users out on their ears. Google:- Thames Tradesmen's Rowing Club to read about their excellent classes and wonderful range of sporting and rowing facilities for all ages at reasonable and affordable rates. The petition to save it is also on that site. It is not a private club but is, was now I suppose, open to all but no more. It is disgraceful, this superb and old club cannot be consigned to the rubbish heap, it must be saved. |
