We were blessed with new trees along our local roads last year. Amazing. I don't think the local Councillors knew about them as I remember Cllr Tony Louki, who is very active, asking about the planting plan in an email. Neighbours got together to water the trees, we weren't asked, but last time I had this conversation with those within I was told they couldn't ask me to do this in case I fell into the road as I watered the tree. One of these looked as if it had been planted on a bed of powdered cement as this was all around the base. I asked inside if the cement would affect the tree and was told not. It gradually died. After it died it was left, and another also died just along from it. The cement tree was then knocked over, probably by a delivery lorry reversing across the pavement. It laid across the pavement then was removed after somebody reported the tree. The other dead tree is still there. The cement tree's, square 'bit 'o earth', then became an affront to the pavement people who sent out a team to tarmac the earth. A neighbour complained and the pavement people came out, dug up the tarmac and planted another tree. Don't know if the powdered cement was dug out or dug in, to nourish the new tree. The other tree is still dead. The others are delightful and cheered the area up with blossom a few weeks ago. |
