| Come on, food caddies if properly closed do not lead to vermin infestation - never had one here in the last 10 years or so. The problem is the lack of discipline in your household - you use it, you close it, place it somewhere where it does not get knocked over after a few pints and the likes. It's not exactly rocket science. I have not seen a rat/fox get into a wheelie bin yet - that's unless they are overflowing. Where I live that's usually black bins because people don't recycle properly. It should be the other way round - or perhaps not -because if you crush your milk container, then they do not take up much space at all. Yes, I do agree that the local council should collect all containers they imposed on us in the past, and then they could centrally redistribute towards organisations that want them - I have been trying to get rid of my old green box for a year, but there have been no takers, not even the most ecologically minded. No, weekly cleaning is not necessary, btw. You wrap your food waste in old newspaper so nothing sticks (this is ok), you throw your clean(!) recycling in the recycling bin, and then you have next to nothing left for the black bin. Neither your recycling bin nor your black bin smells - cause there is nothing that could smell in there! If you have neighbours that do not understand the system - just talk to them - they may not know/understand that things have changed recently, or they have just moved in. |
