Well we went to Thames last night. They've had several days of dummy-runs to ensure a seamless service on opening and we can report that the restaurant has launched with all guns blazing. They're going to a lot of trouble to ensure it's successful and not only do they deserve our support - they have a terrific offering. The premises is stylishly kitted out and well run with ample staff - all of whom are equipped with headsets so management can communicate with them quickly. It's clean and spacious yet humming with activity last night (75% full). To the food: they offer a tremendous selection of dishes - Chinese, Thai, Japanese - all kept warm using a bain-marie system. The dishes were constantly replenished and a member of staff was diligently wiping down surfaces and checking temperatures. In addition there is an 'open kitchen' where fresh meat and fish is grilled to order in front of you. The buffet is £13.95 in the evenings (much less at lunchtimes) and you can go back as many times as you like. All the dishes we tried (and there must have been 60 available if not more) were delicious - fresh and succulent. If they can maintain this standard they will deserve high praise indeed. The only problem is being able to resist so much temptation. They're currently offering two drinks for the price of one. Overall it was excellent value and in a different league to the Asian buffet in Hammersmith. Final word - this is a modern, high energy environment. So don't expect a romantic setting and a relaxing dinner with waiter service. But what it does - it does superbly well. A very welcome addition to our High Street. |
