After intensive discussion this afternoon, the Highways Agency have agreed to reopen the M4 elevated motorway in each direction between Junctions 1 (Chiswick) and 2 (Brentford), allowing traffic to at least travel over the Chiswick roundabout rather than contributing to the congestion within it. These changes to traffic management will happen overnight. The M4 elevated between junctions 2 and 3 will remain closed for at least the next few days. Traffic in Chiswick and Brentford will be hell tomorrow, but it would otherwise have been even worse. Please allow plenty of extra time for any journeys by road. The A4 will be very slow all the way between central London and Heathrow. Buses will be affected as there will be knock-on effects on Chiswick roundabout, Kew Bridge junction, the North & South Circulars, the A315 through Chiswick and Brentford, and the A316. I’m hoping for fine weather, in which case I’ll be cycling to work; if not I’ll be on the tube. CCF |
