Adam's points are quite valid but If I'm reading this right, Anthony goes beyond the policy and I think he is in many ways right. How do we end up with these daft policies? Who do they serve best? Who loses out? Who have the most influences in policy? And what speaks louder than words? So in part, I think Anthony is kind of right. Developers, politicians of various levels and money are to blame as they are behind what gets foisted on us. Developers have huge resources deployed in lobbying and access to various government officers and elected representatives at all levels far and wide. All manner of methods are deployed to get ones way. In an area I worked in, Medical reps took GPs to Spain and Portugal golfing, provided free tvs and video players and chemists with quantities of drugs that they were pushing. All not allowed ethically but 16 years later it still happens. The free pens. pads and office toys that most patients see are a smokescreen. It would be naive to think that it does not go on in any field where procurement and big profits are concerned. But Vanessa too is quite right, query something and you are either negative or bang go your career prospects. When it comes to corruption what goes on high up the greasy pole makes bent MPs look like apple scrumpers. |
