| Cllr Mir has been officially selected to stand for Labour in the Bedfont ward next May. In the light of the hearing, and the judge's comment, there is now pressure on her to stand down. Will she do so of her own volition? What will Hounslow Labour Party do? According to the court hearing, she breached section 15 of the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006, which says an employer must perform the correct “right to work” checks. She told the court the student was just a ‘social visitor’ who came over to her home to ‘play video, watch TV and chill’. Arif Rehman, representing Cllr Mir, said there was no ‘employer relationship’. He added: “Miss Ria used to come over on the weekends and stay occasionally. That is the extent of the relationship. This story is fabricated with an intention to claim immigration advantage and to present herself as a victim of modern-day slavery.
