You are right Jean about people travelling in to the London Hospitals where often they have to negotiate the congestion charge too - look at what they did to Harefield! We had to visit there before they closed it down to sell the land and I am sure we didn't pay car parking charges. A large amount of public money was raised to build bits on to that hospital - remember the fund raising for the Eric Morecombe wing? - I wonder what happened to that when the land was sold for development. We have recently had to organise a taxi to take M-I-L to see her hubby in back in hospital. Their local hospital charges £2 if you are over 10 minutes. Negotiating the corridors and lifts take almost that, one way - and she is pretty sprightly on her pins. So there was an extra £4 a day in parking charges on top of the taxi fare for the taxi driver to take her up to the ward and then collect her from there each day. We couldn't run the risk of losing her within the hospital (endless corridors and multiple floors = lost elderly lady = search parties!) so had to make these arrangements. |
