What a momentous day?

Lining the A4 through Chiswick and on the Great West Road to watch the passing vehicles and VIP coaches..will be remembered by many for ever.

Another great opportunity to speak with other locals in the crowds too.

Those unable to leave their homes to see the action might like to ask for help to find the local Facebook pages.. where many many short videos were posted showing the multitudes along the GWR at Gillette Corner, Lampton Corner and towards Henlys Corner etc.If only those videos could be saved.
It was an impressive turn out.

I myself went to the top of Harvard Hill in Chiswick..some 150 yards from my birthplace.. and was enchanted by the groups children watching this big event with their parents.

When Princess Elizabeth  became Queen in 1952 following the death of her father ..King George V1..she returned to London from Kenya..where she was on holiday..
landed at Hesthrow..and then travelled down the Great West Road to Chiswick High Road... all before the Chiswick Flyover was built.

So now we start a.new era.
