| In the 2016 referendum 48% voted to remain in the EU and keep our open borders with other EU states. Within this, 70% of younger people voted to remain and 70% of older people voted to leave. Three years later there has inevitably been a loss of some of the original older people and a gain in new younger voters. Apply the mathematics and you'll find a repeat vote on like-for-like information would now yield a definitve remain result. Personally I abhore the underlying racism of the brexit vote. We're all immigrants if you go back far enough, in my case it might be 947 years, but I'm still the descendent of an immigrant. Very few surnames have an old english, Anglo-Saxon, origin. Perhaps Cooper (barrel maker), Smith (smithy), Miller (you can guess that one) and a couple of others. So far, Brexit has caused Sterling to lose 20% against the euro and a whopping 40% against the swiss franc. All you ever see is people saying 'oh well who cares if a jug of sangria costs a bit more'. How about 'that devaluation is really hurting my business and as a result I'm paying less corporation tax, so there'll be less money in the kitty to pay for all the benefits mythology says immigrants take'. Or how about 'post brexit vote we've switched ownership and operation from the UK to German entity' |
