Brentford was in the news even nearly 40 years ago!

"1976 Trico-Folberth Equal Pay Strike. Women at a windscreen wipers factory in Brentford Middlesex organised by the Amalgamated Union of Engineering Workers were on strike for 21 weeks before winning their demand to be paid the same basic rate as male workers"

So those employers on the Great West Road weren't all angels it seems. Did you see the article in the B&C Local History magazine about how badly Firestone employees were treated in the 1930's? Perhaps it's a good thing that the iconic building is no longer there to act as a reminder!
